If I'm spotting and I'm 7-8 weeks along in my pregnancy could I lose the baby?
I have had a miscarriage before but it wasn't like this. My spotting is very light but bright red. I started early this week and having light cramps every few hours. I have a doctors appointment on Monday. Should I go sooner? Is there anything I can do?

Since you have had a miscarriage in the past, it would probably be in your best interest to go see your doctor sooner. But light spotting can be very normal in pregnancy. I had the same happen to me early in my pregnancy. I had spotting when i was just over 6 weeks and when I was about 12 weeks, and both times had ultrasounds done and everything was perfect.

Spotting during early pregnancy can be very normal. Sometimes it is accompanied by low back pain and cramping in the lower abdomen.
The endometrium builds up a thick bed of blood vessels and as the "blastocyst" implants, some blood is released from the uterine wall. Of course, this is typically how miscarriage begins as well, so it is a good idea to notify your care provider and monitor the spotting. For example, does it increase after exercise, sex, a busy day? If it does, it is best to limit such activities until the spotting goes away.
Bleeding in the second and third trimesters is much more ominous, but first trimester bleeding is very common. Some authors say it happens frequently when the next menses would have been due.
Warning signs that this may not be normal would be heavy bleeding, passage of clots or tissue, increase in pain and/or fever. The fact that it is brown or pink is a good sign. If it turns bright red, I would call your provider immediately.
It is not too early to see your doctor or midwife. It can be very reassuring to hear a fetal heartbeat (often heard as early as eight to nine weeks with a doppler) and to make sure the uterus is growing as expected. An ultrasound may also be indicated.
All expectant mothers should also be checked for infections like chlamydia and bacterial vaginosis, which may cause preterm labor and spotting. Checks for hepatitis and beta strep should also be done sometime during the pregnancy.
Despite the fact that bedrest is sometimes recommended for early spotting, no well controlled studies have confirmed its usefulness.

This is a really hard situation to be in I know, but you have to try & think happy thoughts. I am on my 8th pregnancy.I 've had 1 neo natal death, then 1 full term.4 miscarriages.then 1 26wk'r & I'm now 21wks. With my m/c's unlike most people I had no bleeding or cramping or anything what so ever, when I went for my u/s around the 10-12wk mark the babies had stopped forming. This pregnancy I have had on & off bleeding since I was 5wks,but everything is fine.As an extra precaution my OB has been doing a quick scan every 2wks to check babies heart rate & that my cervix isn't opening. For me I was panicking all the time especially because they use words like threatening m/c.But came to realize this does not mean you are going to m/c,it just means unexplained bleeding. It was actually a nice student dr at my Ob clinic that said this to me,he said he didn't want me stressing unnecessarily.I know it's hard not to worry, but unfortunatley there is nothing you can do but hope for the best.I know my hubby was the best thing for me he just kept calling me a worry wart & saying everything was fine, which it was,but if he had of been panicking I dont think I would've coped. I hope everything goes fine for you.Good luck :oD

I am 24 weeks pregnant and had the same problem the doctor told me its normal to have some spotting cause the tissue don there is so tender the cramps are actually you muscles stretching to make room for the baby and is normal if it a miscarriage there is nothing they could do to stop it , but you should be fine now if you start getting a lot of heavy bleeding and severe pain in the back and pelvic area you should to to the er

Spotting can be a bad thing but does not necessarily mean that you are having a miscarriage ok you should of said something when you first noticed it to your doctor so he could of told you what to do but if you don't have any cramping pains im guessing that you and your baby are ok. some women get their periods when there pregnant u may be in those women

The cramps are the part that concerns me. Every pregnancy is different so I would call your doctor and at least explain what's going on. They will probably tell you to wait it out at home and stay off your feet unless it gets really bad, then go to the ER.
Best wishes hon and God bless.

you should def get checked out - but it could be when the baby moves from the uterus wall to the womb as it can cause spotting and cramps so it may just be that. Although i got told that any bleeding should be checked out asap.
Hope it goes well!

Try to get lots of rest but I would go to the ER or the DR now since you have a history of miscarriage. Just so they can set your mind at ease to maybe help you to get it to stop.

Your progesterone levels may be low, which can cause the spotting. I would call your doctor and have them run some labs on you to check. They can give you a prescription to help raise the levels and it will prevent you from miscarrying. best wishes.

Spotting is normal. I had it at the beginning and I have a perfectly healthy 3 week old baby girl next to me. You could always stop by your ob tomorrow to hear the heartbeat if it will ease your mind.

most people have a full out period during their pregnancy..
but since you have had a miscarriage, its not the greatest sign, esp that you are in the 7-8 week mark..
