What are the worst team names?

Not hatin on teams, but I think that the Clippers (no brainer here), 76ers (I know it's supposed 2 be a historical reference, but a number for a team is pretty lame), Spurs (a horse riding accessory?), and the Lakers (don't think about the franchise, just the name and you'll see what I mean).

Well the thunder is associated with the thunderstorms that always go through OKC but cyclones or tornadoes wouldve been a better name.

Clippers of course go back to the San Diego days.

Bobcats...meh.

NUggets-Gold Miners back in the day during the gold rush.

The Heat is 50/50. Its not really as hot in Miami as it is in Houston or Phoenix or San Antonio. Houston Heat wouldve been ok. BUt since NASA has operations in Houston, well, you have the Rockets.

Miami Heat is ok.

Orlando Magic just works.

For those asking, the Denver Nuggets had a logo with a miner carrying his pick looking for gold. that is how they got the name "Nuggets" - from gold miners looking for those nuggets. Clippers are a type of ship and they got that name when they were in San Diego, since many clipper ships are docked there.

To answer the question: I don't like Thunder, either, followed by Bobcats. Magic is OK, because the name comes from Disney's Magic Kingdom, located, of course, in Orlando.

The Jazz would be a great name is they were still in New Orleans. It's still not that bad though. The Los Angeles Lakers is pretty awful too. Minnesota is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" but they aren't in Minnesota. Even while they were in Minnesota, that was a pretty lame name. Thunder is bad.

Magic does sound a little bit friuty.But the thunder sound like an elementary school basketball bal team names.And what the hell is a Laker

It just became misfits because they changed their location like Lakers which is originally from Minneapolis "land of 1000 lakes". They relocate to Los Angeles and lost the meaning of the name. Utah Jazz which was New Orleans Jazz before that.

Personally I'd like a better name for Washington than Wizards. and yeah, Denver Nuggets too.

The best team name for me is Timberwolves.

Indiana State Sycamores. Some California college Banana Slugs. And yes, Utah Jazz as someone said. Los Angeles Lakers is another.
