as Taz says you can also go into windows directory, look for a folder called "prefetch" delete the contents , there all your cookies, taking up space on hard drive , Ccleaner will delete old prefetch files, system Mechanics 9 will do all your houskeeping too, if you not confident, then don't do it. if your useinf IE 8 tools>internet options> tick all the boxes and delete, don't save private data or passwords in browser. Using firefox, tools>internet options, save data for 0 days or when i close firefox delete history, delete private data, want to save frequented sites use bookmark or favorites?
