Should the NFL add more games?

I think not...but an educated strong argument for adding more games may sway me.

I think preseason games are good for evaluating the FNG's and deciding who stays. You change things and rush this process and the wrong guys might get cut. Not just that, but I think 16 games is plenty to decide who deserves a shot in the playoffs. 2 more games could make a difference to some marginal teams, but the odds are extremely high that it won't make a difference in who wins the Superbowl. Yes, there will always be anomalies and a team could slide into the playoffs with that 18th game and win the Superbowl. But it would be just what I said...an anomaly.

Want to get in the playoffs? Win more games period. Whether the season is 10 games or 20.

The only legitimate reason the NFL has for adding more games would be more revenue. Cash is King!

Update:

Hayes - good call on that one as I am an insomniac who stays up way past midnight and sleeps way past 8 am.

Your last statement was the only thing you even need to think about. It will happen. Soon.

I would like to see the preseason reduced to 2 games and the regular season to 18 games. It's mostly for the selfish reason of wanting to watch more football games, since the season doesn't last nearly as long as I would want it to.

I also think after the second preseason game most coaches know who they are going to keep and cut. They play the last too to get their starters ready for the regular season, and maybe give a few players one last shot at showing something. However they usually know what their roster is going to be by then.

I also would like to see an 18 game season, because you won't see teams right at .500 getting into the playoffs as often, and asking teams to win more games to get into the playoffs just makes the game a little more competitive in my opinion.

But mainly i want to see it because regular season games are more fun to watch than preseason. And I need to overdose on football to last the entire off-season.

    I say leave it alone.

We need 4 preseason games and 16 regular season games is adequate. The playoffs add what another 3 games and then the Super Bowl, so I say leave it be.

No, There should be a bi week for all teams during the same weekend at mid-season and they should shorten the pre season. Players stay in shape year round anyway...and there should not be a week off between the Championship games and the SuperBowl... the season is too long already.

the only thing i think they should do: take out the week of nothingness in between the conference championships and the super bowl. its bad enough we have to go without football for 7 months of the season, now your gonna make us go another week before the big game?? as for the regular season, keep it the way it is. it works, why mess with it? i guess i just dont like change lol.

well sure for more revenue, but more television rights is more money to pay player salaries which would make both owners and players happy.

The NFL is in danger of over exposing itself. But they probably will.
