Another test of your knowledge of Harleys...Trivia Question?

In 1993, HD introduced the "Nostalgia" edition Heritage Softail, with a black & white color scheme....a service bulltin was issued concerning the seat on this bike......what was the issue with the seats?

Update:

also.....what was the name given to this bike?

Update 2:

Here is yet another question..........

There is a superstition about painting a Harley a certain color......what color is it & where did this superstition come from?

Update 3:

EDIT:....All your answers are pretty damn close!!!!....I'll let it ride for the day then give the answer tonight or tomorrow

Update 4:

There are so many answers that are so close to be right....I can't choose the best.....will leave that up to you.

The answer about the Nostalgia MOO-GLIDE.........Yes, there was an issue with the stitching...I forgot about that...I actually do not remember a bulletin being issued about that, but there may have been......I was actually referring to the HAIR falling out of the cowhide.....the suppliers for the cowhides, had slughtered some of the cows that these hides came from while the cows were in their shedding season which affected the hides and caused the hiar to simply fall off.

Update 5:

My addition to the green answer is what I was told by one of my MMI instructors back in 1990 who actually lost to a green Triumph......so as superstions go, just like rumors...you just REALLY never know EXACTLY how it got started and when......tales grow taller down the line.

Update 6:

The bad luck color is GREEN.....as has a couple different areas of reason....

Blank is right about the WWII military bikes being green and why they were specific targets....everyone else is correct about green being bad luck in genral from the auto/bike racing history.....BUT...it IS more so for HD than others.....I am not sure of the exact years..around mid-60's into the 70's.....whenever factory sponsored HD racers lost to Triumph, (HD's big competion at that time), the Triumph was ALWAYS painted British Racing Green, they never lost to a Triumph that was painted any other color.

Update 7:

My addition to the green answer is what I was told by one of my MMI instructors back in 1990 who actually lost to a green Triumph......so as superstions go, just like rumors...you just REALLY never know EXACTLY how it got started and when......tales grow taller down the line.

moo glide or cow glide. I was told the seat was really uncomfortable for taller riders having them sit more forward. That and fastener problems on a lot of the bikes about that time. So to guess that would be the area I would guess.

Green. Is the unlucky color. Two schools of thought of its origin the military rode green Harleys on the front lines in battle. Bikes usually carried important info and people. Making them targets. The second I believe has more clout is that it comes from auto racing. It was believed driving a green car was dangerous and unlucky. This came after a green car crash at indy. I am sure Harley has produced some greenish bikes.

I think green Harleys are cool ...if they don't dress them to look Kawaskiish. I wouldn't buy in to superstitions. I can say that since I have carried the same St. Chris on my bike since day one.

If I remember right, the issue was the stitching between the cowhide and the leather, many riders complained to me while I worked the Parts counter that it was not comfortable, I ordered a few seats aftermarket I do remember...but I'm not sure...good one.

It is called the Moo-Glide due to the paint scheme and two toned seats featuring cowhide and leather.

The Harley-Davidson Racing Team changed the color of their bikes many years ago to green. They were a very successful racing team until they changed the color scheme. Bad luck...?

cowglide..my guess for the seats would be they got dirty easily or made the rider sweat with the friction of the cowhide or the seams came apart by the cow print.

The color is green is considered bad luck. Supposedly since the military bikes were green and they were targets to get blown up. Thats too bad since I personally love green bikes the most.

The color superstition does not only apply to HD but to all motorcycles and actually originated with cars. Formula 1 cars to be precise. It was actually the exact shade "British Racing Green" that is at the root of the superstition. In the 50's several British teams Lotus and Cooper among them painted their cars green and used varying stripe colors [white, yellow] to distinguish them. It was the lotus team, I believe, that had a series of crashes with fatalities and other mishaps during the race series. When a new car was introduced in yellow the Team had a successful season with no fatal crashes. To say it only applies to HD is a misnomer as among the racing community the bad luck of a green vehicle is well known.

Don't have a clue on the seat issue.

Moo Glide for the black & white paint and a black & white cowhide seat.

Heard Harleys painted green were bad luck, but I don't know why.

Green was the bad luck color, because it was thought that racers with green cars or bikes were likely to crash and die. It dates back at least as far as the 1920's at Indy., and has been subscribed to in Nascar and on the AMA flat track circuit (the probable connection with Harley) and in the world of hot rod and custom cars. The jinx never seemed to apply to British Racing Green.

Don't really know the answers to any, but I think the color answer is green. My cousin had an old Harley and just mixed up some left over paints and it came out green. All his friends ragged him until he repainted it.

I don't remember the specific issue, other than it had something to do with the cowhide insert on the seat.

The nickname for the bike was the Moo-Glide.

No clue on the color superstition, sorry.

The issue with the seats was that people were sitting on them and expecting the bike to go. The name is the bike I believe was cow patty. and the unlucky color must be black as I see alot of black HD's, poor suckers.

I think the service bulletin on the seat was the smell. If you got the "Cow Glide" seat wet, it smelled like a wet dog.
