You can't delete the recycle bin... You just delete the shortcut to it.

The actual files are stored in a hidden directory called RECYCLER on each drive, and it's stored under a slightly different name.

And even if you delete the files, you pretty much just erase the directions to them. If you search the individual sectors on the drive you can still find bits and pieces of it. It's just harder to reassemble.

So to delete stuff, you need to overwrite it with 1's and 0's several times, THEN delete the files, then fill the space with something else.

    Hi Crash,

What actually happens when they are deleted from the recycle bin is that the connection between the file and the name of the file is broken. In essence the space that the file occupies on your hard drive is marked as "available" by your computer. As you create more files, the file may eventually be overwritten. However, there is a lot of software out there which can recover files which have been "permanently" deleted. Don't assume that a file can never be retrieved, because that is not necessarily the case.

There is, however, also software out there which can permanently delete the files. Most programs accomplish this by overwriting the space occupied by the file several times. File Shredder (http://www.fileshredder.org)/ is one of these. Hope that this helps you out!

Once you delete them from the recycle bin they are gone forever,

unless you use a special type of software that can do harddrive surface scans to retrieve deleted files, but this only usually works if the area where the files were stored are not overwritten and the software doing the restore is excellent like the type FBI and goverment agencies use.

    no sir

some files still on the HDD even if you delete it

and you can recover that files using some "file recovery" progs.

and if you want to destroy it permanantly you have to use

tune up utilities 2009 or other progs or by formating and writing zeros on the HDD

    hope this F1
