watching blu ray movies on ps3?

i got my first blu ray movie last night . while watching it on my ps3, i really didn't feel like it was in hd. My tv does 720p and 1080i. I know that blu ray movies are in 1080p, so i was wondering will it scale down for my tv or am i just out of luck and stuck with it displaying in 480

Update:

yes i do have an hdmi cable

Update 2:

i am no sure how to change the option though in the settings

If it's not connected via HDMI, you won't get full HD. Component connections allow 1080i, but anything less, and it will just stick with a maximum of 480.

You have to use HDMI to get full HD.

The PS3 will scale down, but you have to go into the settings to make sure it's not scaling down too far, and you have to use the right cable.

    No HDMI=No HD

In the video setup under settings ensure that you have 480p, 720p and 1080i checked.
