how to make a simple but professional looking rubber stamp?

I would like to be able to make a professional rubber stamp without the high overhead cost. Preferably, with simple home gadgets and materials. Any input ?

I'm going to star your question because I want to know also.

Anyway most people make stamps with erasers, They etch their pattern with exacto knives.

The details I need to learn also.

Only if your company is involved in some way with rubber stamping. If not then you should bite the bullet and pay a printer for proper letterhead, envelopes and business cards. Keep them simple and elegant, just black ink on quality white paper. I spent many years working in print shops and have owned a rubber stamp company for 12 years now, I am familiar with both. Rubber stamps can be wonderfully creative but unfortunately most people just don't *get* it, they think it looks cheap or sloppy. If that's the sort of people you'll be working with then it'd pay in the long run to work with a local printer for a proper image. First impressions count! Good luck!

    Said home made.

Back in school we used to make stamps for "block printing" using old fashioned "soap erasers".

Guess any fine grained plastic eraser would do.

Depends on how good you are w/ a craft knife.

Draw your design on thin paper so you can trace the reverse image on back.

Transfer it to the eraser then cut the design into it .

Remove tha material around & in the image you do not want to "print"

Ink it up w/ a regular stamp pad & print.

Works well but the stamps do not last too long.

Could also try an art supply store for linoleum print blocks.

Easy to carve & last longer but require more pressure to print.

    Best regards

Draw your design into an eraser of your preferred size. You might want to draw it out on paper first, to make sure you know what you want.

Then, use an exactly knife to "cut" out the excess area.

The only way to really make it professional is to take your time -- go so slow it feels like you'll never finish cutting out the pieces, and then go back with the knife and BARELY shave along the edges of the raised design -- smoothing it out.

Also, don't forget to put your design on "backwards" so it will come out "forwards" on paper.

I got a couple of stamps made at Office Max for a very reasonable cost.
