Biden and his wife, Jill, earned $319,853 in adjusted gross income and paid $72,787 in federal taxes last year, including $2,721 in alternative minimum taxes. Sen. Barack Obama released seven years of prior tax return documents on Tuesday. And a review of the records reveals several newsworthy, albeit minor, disclosures.
Up until recent years when their income increased sharply from book revenues and a Senate salary, Obama's family donated a relatively minor amount of its earnings to charity. From 2000 through 2004, the senator and his wife never gave more than $3,500 a year in charitable donations -- about 1 percent of their annual earnings.

Mccain on the other hand donates 1/4th of his income and Cindy donates 10 to 20 % of her income.
John McCain reported giving more than $202,000 — a quarter of his income — to charity in 2006 and 2007, the only years for which his campaign released his tax returns. His campaign didn't release information about his wife's charitable contributions, however. In 2006, her total itemized tax deductions, a category which includes charitable contributions and other deductible items such as mortgage interest, was $569,737, or 9.3% of her income.

These dolts say Americans aren't generous. BULL CRAP! Maybe THEY aren't generous!
In my church we donate not only time but at least 10% of our gross income. 1% is a pittance and he has no right to say Americans aren't generous.

Democrats don't believe in private charities, so your question is irrelevant. The government should be the only single-payer charity, with politicians deciding who the recipients should be, so everybody who pays taxes is patriotic and charitable by the democrat definition (and specifically stated by VP Biden). If they could raise all taxes and outlaw charities, they would do it in a split second!

So how much do you give to charities? I mean if that is the only measure of a man.. exactly how much of your yearly income do you give up... Church's do not count.
You have one man trying to do everything in his power to make sure eveyone has some kind of heath care... and you have another doing everything in his power to stop that from happening.
That is like saying the founder of the red cross for not donating most of his money to non red cross charities.

Because our tax money is not theirs to give [see source]:

The funny thing is-there are probably businesses out there that donate more to charity per year than their entire admin combined...so much for the heartless stereotype.

It is not important how much you GIVE to the poor, but more important what you DO for them.
