Is mbps the same as mbit?

I was wondering if they're the same, because both of them are measurements for internet speed right? Mbps is MegaBytes Per Second and mbit is 1/8 of a megabyte so is 10 mbit connection 8 times slower than 10 mbps connection or what?

1 Byte = 8 bits so there is difference of 8 times. Megabyte is written in Capital letters like MB/s or MBps while Megabit is written in small like mb/s or mbps

mbps means megabits per second, mbit would also mean megabits per second, so yeah. An 8meg broadband (working at its best) would download at 1MB per second.
