How do I protect potted rose bushes in the winter?
There's tons of info on rose bushes planted in the ground. Mine will stay in large clay pots b/c I rent and don't own the flower beds.

i would wrap it in newspaper...the bottom of the pot to keep from freezing or you could do parchment paper. if there is anyway you can bring it in that would be best though but just wrap the pot and mulch...heavily mulch the soil and follow regular rose wintering instructions. i have had clay pots break from cold though so wrap it very carefully with paper to insulate and bubble wrap or something similar on top of the paper. good luck

do you have a garage or porch that you can use to keep it out of the worst of the winter cold?.... you must let them stay outside until the frost makes them drop their leaves and go dormant... then, they can be put where it's still COLD, just not out in the worst of it.... a heavy old blanket will help insulate the pot... maybe a couple of them.... that's for inside a garage.... if they must stay actually outside, then the best method is to surround the pot with a mulch.... my choice would be stacked straw bales.... with mulch poured over the soil in the pot, as well....
the deal is, it has to stay cold, just not so cold that the roots freeze in the pot....
you could ask if there's a spot in the garden that you could bury pot and all and mulch it from there, too.....if not and you can still use a spot above ground for the straw bales idea, that's great... just keep it sheltered from the worst of the winds and on the warm, south side of the house if possible.....

The best way is to put a clear plastic bag on top of them Mine have a stake in the pot, so I thread the bag through the stake, over the plant, and weight down at the bottom. Protects from frost, wind etc.

u never said how low below zero it becomes in winter where u re. if it is lower than -10 and for quite a long time your roses will not survive no matter how many newspapers u will wrap them into. but if it is cols only at night and not long time - newspaper works very well for everything

get socks put white rice in it heat it in the micro for 45 seconds then tie them up and place it near the roots of the plant and then cover them with a sheet....or bring them inside at night
