Can you grow immune to calamine lotion?

I've been using it to treat my acne for about a week & am thrilled with the results so far, however I was wondering if my skin will eventually become immune to it's affects. Does it loose affect on people who use it for chicken pox or poison ivy?

The active ingredient in calamine lotion is zinc oxide and zinc is good for the skin both externally and internally as a micro nutrient in our foods or in a supplemental form. Though it also contains iron oxide.

Always check the contraindications of a product before use from a reputable source:

Though zinc is certainly good for the skin and there is anecdotal evidence that zinc lotions, including calamine, might help remove acne, do bare in mind that bacteria play a causative role in the development of acne. Bacteria are tricky organisms in that long-term treatment of any sort could become innefective owing the bacteria developing resistance. So it is often a good idea to take a break and use an alternative product from time to time. Though having said that, it is also possible that you could use a product for a very long time without noticing any lessening of results....everyone is unique really.

It might be a good idea also to take a good quality multivitamin containing zinc and copper for you skin health.

Having previously used calamine lotion for chicken pox or poison ivy should not have any bearing on treatment now.

You could alternatively look for a lotion or cream that has zinc oxide but no iron oxide. Not sure of the long-term safety of using a lotion containing iron oxide.
