What is the appropriate way to get someone to move out of the left lane when you want to pass?
In California, it's like these people are oblivious to common courtesy -- get out of the left lane on the freeway unless you're passing, you're causing a dangerous situation when someone changes (sometimes many) lanes to get around you, and disrupting the flow of traffic.
So I've tried flashing brights, turning on my left turn signal, tailgating, honking...I've even seen a sign you put on the top of your windshield that says Move Over if you look at it in a mirror (I would never get that, it's just awesome). So my question is how do you typically get these idiots out of the left lane, and is there an appropriate way that is universally accepted?
This is my biggest pet peeve...it's like walking down a hallway really slowly and not letting anyone pass.

Bud I feel your pain and to make it worse I drive a tractor-trailer! And in Cali as you know my speed limit is only 55mph. But what I normally do is flash my lights at them and they normally will get out of your way. Now it may take a couple of minutes but they will eventually get over. If that fails then you are better off just relaxing and simply waiting until you can pass on the right.

Stay back and wait. This is a normal behavior and your frustration indicates a lack of patience and maturity. A professional driver does not get upset with people not acting or driving they way they'd like them to. Leave early and stay cool. Only a childish driver would flash their lights or tailgate. The problem is not other driver's. It's you.

Well you've already done the one thing the car was design to do to make people switch, its flashing your high beams. the mode is call "flash-to-pass," really, its a actually mode on your combination switch. if they dont switch lanes, just means they're you-know-whats :)
