What are you supposed to do at a viewing\?

So I go to the funeral home the night before the funeral and then what? I give my condolences to the family, have a look at the body, but then do I sit down for awhile or do I leave or what?? The funeral is the next day.

That's entirely up to you. If there is someone there you know, you might want to sit and talk with him/her. Otherwise, it is perfectly okay to leave right after you have viewed the body and spoken with the family. Some viewings are so crowded, there's really no place to sit or stand anyway without getting in the way. As long as you pay your respects, that is all that is needed.

    Play it by ear.

The family may not even be there.
