Just curious; what year did PC mfgs start incorporating CD burners into PC's for home use?

My friend has a very old PC and she believes it has a CD burner, but I'm dubious. She is very UN-tech. So that led to my curiosity being peaked.

I dont know exactly what year it started, but I do know that my Packard Bell pc from 1995 came with a 2x cd burner on it as an optional upgrade for nearly $250 extra.

Pretty much all cd-burners of any kind had the CD Recorder icon on the front of the drive back then.

    Logo is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-R

I believe they started coming out in the late 90's however these came at a premium price.

It wasnt until years later that the price was affordable for the mainstream.
