Why is everyone so worried about Obama taking away guns?
I'm not taking a side here because I honestly am not the most informed person on this matter. I constantly hear republicans getting all worked up and yelling "Obama is going to take away our guns!" I'm just wondering where they got this idea. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I have not ever heard Obama mention taking away guns. Then again, I'm not really up-to-date on politics. So could someone cite a resource quoting him saying anything of the sort? Also, he's the president, not a dictator. I don't understand how he could single-handedly "take away our guns." I am an avid gun collector myself. Again I would like to add that I'm trying not to be biased here, I'm honestly wanting to know if there is any credibility to this.
Awesome guys! Thanks! Could someone please provide a source if possible?! I would love to shove it in my paronoid friends faces! Oh and to the person who spoke out against guns, you make a fair point. In the wrong hands, yes it is more likely to have an accident. In the correct hands though, it is an extremely fun hobby to collect old rifles and restore them. I own guns as a project to work on more than for protection. I am a freak about gun safety too. Very fun hobby.

Look at his previous voting record on the subject, HIs actions speak louder than his words.

The guy who is asking the question is asking for backed up documentation.
Before Obama became a national political figure, he sat on the board of the Joyce Foundation, a Chicago-based foundation that doled out at least nine grants totaling nearly $2.7 million to groups that were against the second amendment.
The foundation funded legal scholarship advancing the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun owners’ rights, as well as two groups that advocated handgun bans. And it paid to support a book called "Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handgun."
Here is some documentation:
http://armsandthelaw.com/archives/2008/06/obamas_p...
He also said this during an April 17th debate:
"I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right."

Obama has never said "I'm gonna take all your guns from you" He just said, he will enforce a new strict way to get a gun such as: Pass a Psychological background for everybody,etc..
You can buy a high caliber weapon, and all you need to pass is a criminal background check now days and that's it (In most states),pay for it and that's it is yours.
I agree that everyone has the right to posses a gun (Legally),but it should be controlled. How come some people in the U.S has 5 or more weapons? It's crazy, Why do you need so many weapons for? No freaking reason.
How can a police officer arrest or shoot down a crazy person with a high caliber weapon, If they carry handguns?
If you want all these guns and act like you r tough and look like Rambo, then join the military or become a police officer! Quit being so psycho about too many guns, and be responsible!

You can not help the moment modification with out aiding attack guns. The motive of the moment modification used to be to have men and women be in a position to safeguard towards aggressors adding our possess executive. If you seem at what the government and what it could actually include some thing in the world is authorized. That correct shall no longer be infringed. You must seem up infringed. It is not a query of priorities and it's one among his pursuits ago through motion and now through slipperiness.

"My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns."
--Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser, 2007
Well being able to bear arms is kind of a constitutional right, and I don't like the president messing with my constitution. That's why the republicans and some independents are getting upset over it. But then again this guy has gone back and forth on everything he's said, so this could be bs.

Well if I lived in Calf. I be worried about losing the right to bare arms. Haven't you heard Calf. is bankrupt and now it is beginning to let sex offenders out of jail.
The day might still come when parents will have to protect their children.
Kidding aside, I live in upstate New York, where the most dangerous wild Animal in the area is Bambi. Like deer are jumping in front of our cars causing accidents all over the place. Let the hunters bring home dinner! The right to bare arms is in our Constitution.!
Have you read any of the statics on murders in England when they took away the right of citizens to bare legal arms. Murders up 300 percent Thank you Fox Cable News!

Did you know that there are TWO ways that our Constitution can be changed? And did you know that Pelosi, Reid and Barack Obama are using the less well-known way, without having to actually introduce amendments? One way to change the Constitution is to go through the amendment process -- a long and tedious process requiring two-thirds of both houses of Congress to pass an amendment, and then three-fourths of the states to ratify it.
That means a "super-majority" of our representatives at the National and State levels would have to be in favor of the amendment -- which safeguards us from the possibility of really "bad" amendments.
BUT... there is one other way that our Constitution can be changed... and it DOES NOT require all of those elected representatives to be in favor of it. It's called a Constitutional Convention, and all that it requires is 34 states to ask Congress to call one.

There is legislation pending that would require people to register their guns on the IRS tax forms and people would be taxed for them.
We have a Constitutional right to own and bear arms for the protection of our homes and our families. To pass this law is to revoke that constitutional freedom.
What they are trying to do is locate and categorize weapons--- for the safety of the public. The people who would register their guns are the good guys.
Now Honestly--- if you were a crook would you register it your gun? Nawwwwwww -- me neither!
I saw my brother accidentally shoot & wound my dad when I was 5 - I have never owned a gun of my own - I don;t want a gun of my own-- BUT I DAMN SURE WANT THE RIGHT TO OWN A GUN IF I SO CHOSE!
It's a freedom they are taking away- a right.
To be honest I'd be more likely to beat you to death with a gun than shoot anyone!

They are delusional.
Obama has repeatedly said he is not interested in taking away guns. He also came out in favor of the supreme court decision saying that the right to bear arms is a personal right.
It is a talking point and it is a lie.
He has mentioned reforming gun laws. The right assumes that to mean taking away guns.
That isn't what it means. It means making sure that current laws involving using a gun in a crime are strengthened and enforced.
And assault weapons are not just mere guns. They are weapons of war that serve no purpose but to attack other people. They are also very likely to end up in the hands of criminals with severe consequences.
Don't use a gun in a crime, you have no problem.

It's just the usual paranoia and fear-mongering whenever a Democratic President is in office. I'm sure the gun and ammo manufacturers are in part the originators of such rumors, since they're enjoying record sales and prices (due to artifical demand).
As I've mentioned before, if it ever comes down to a situation where we have to take up arms against the government...at that point why would we care if they won't issue us a permit?

It probably because people on the extreme right (fox news, ect) are twisting a statement Obama made about making it harder for criminals to get guns into something like Obama is going to take all your guns away.
