Disney Buys Marvel...What a Shame!!!?
Do you think that Disney just bought Marvel to run Universal into the ground by not letting them use Marvel characters anymore forcing them to re-do all of the rides' themes?

Disney is not trying to run Universal into the ground.
They made a business deal and that's all.
Back in the early 1980's Disney was overextended.
They had some films that did not do very well at
the box office & they spent a phenomical amount
of money building up the theme parks. They had
to temporaily lay off some of the Imagineers.
At this time they were building up the Universal theme
parks and they hired these Imagineers. The Imagineers
put in some of the best attractions there. They have that
same storyborad feeling of the Disney Attractions.
Nobody was worried that Universal was trying to run
Disney into the ground. (There are several ideas that
were originally geared toward Disney World that landed
up at Universal).
Universal will NOT have to redo all its rides. Whatever
is already in the park would be protected. Universal
would not be able to create any "NEW" rides using
characters that would be in the deal between Marvel
& Disney.
Source(s): Disney fanatic. Besides reading many books I have taken many of the Disney behind the scenes tours. The Spiderman ride was origionally a Disney ride. (Marvel & Disney had made many business deals during the late 1970s). - LilliLv 71 decade ago
No. The contracts are already in place between Marvel and Universal. They can't force Universal to stop using Marvel overnight. Disney will have to honor the already existing contracts. The contracts are not public, but it will be interesting to see what happens if and when the contracts run out.
I'm sure Disney won't want to make deals for Universal to make anything new, but it would be next to impossible for them to do anything about the already existing agreement.

Sure, why not? As Don Corleone would say, "It's nothing personal. It's strictly business."
Since Islands of Adventure is already pursuing a joint venture with Warner Bros. with the new Harry Potter section, it stands to reason that they could establish another deal with them to license the characters from the DC Comics universe to replace the Marvel Comics characters.
Also, when it opens in 2010, Universal Studios Singapore will have a ride with the exact same format as the Spider-Man ride, but with a Transformers theme, so it's possible that the Spider-Man ride at Islands of Adventure could be retrofitted to be just like that one.

I think Universal can still make it though...I'll go there to ride Jaws and that Earthquake ride (that was always my favorite when I was little) and all of the other goodies at Orlando...and if they have to retheme some other rides then it'll be something to look forward to! On the other hand, I'm not sure what I think about going to Disney and seeing Marvel characters (if they decide to incorporate that into their theme parks) - I think it kind of ruins the atmosphere that I think is distinctively Disney (don't get me wrong, I love Marvel - but I'd rather have it at Universal then at the magical world of Disney). BAD DISNEY, BAD (you too, Universal..wtf?)!!

Hehehehe.... imagine something like a Spiderman/Hannah Montana or an Iron Man/Jonas Brothers sorta thing. That would be just too cool. And weird. I don't really know what Disney are doing or where they are going to take this road to, all I know is that we are in for a huge bumpy ride fellas.

I don't know I think it's kinda lame though. How can Disney buy Marvel. That's not Disney. Those are completely seperate companies and they should have stayed that way. Walt Disney would not have liked this.

an interesting move. Marvel figures promote mild violence, i don't think that's what disney is all about.
