Are (800) numbers considered long distance calls?

My home phone provider charges to have a long distance service on my line. I never make traditional long distance calls but occassionally will make a call to a (800) number. I want to cancel the long distance service on my home phone. How will that impact my ability to place the toll free calls?

    I don't think it will.

Those are toll free numbers and will be free.

If they stop that u can also use voip for those services instead of paying huge long distance rates,if u place any call though.

You can visit this site it has lots of great information on free calls

When a company gets an 800 number, they agree to be responsible for any calls received on that line. So, 800 numbers are free calls to you, the caller. Phone companies recognize 800 numbers as toll free, and don't require a long distance provider.

Your friend is wrong. It will leave a great big blot on your credit report, or possibly your parents', if they're the financially responsible party. On the other hand, the carrier may agree to come to some kind of accommodation, such as upping you plan and re-rating your bill to that plan. Most recognize that it is in their best interest to have a customer stay with them for years and pay their bill rather than cancel with a large balance that they might not ever collect in entirety. If it's your parents' account, it would be wise to come clean with them as you might need their help to get this done. Note that if one is a responsible person with a cell phone, it is entirely reasonable to ASK, "What are my limits? Can I text? How many minutes do I get per month? What's my home calling area? How does long distance work?" Edit: as to the suicide talk, your parents would still be stuck with a $800 bill, and minus a daughter. How does that help things?

Toll-free numbers are numbers that begin with one of the following three-digit codes: 800, 888, 877, or 866. Toll-free numbers allow callers to reach businesses and/or individuals without being charged for the call. The charge for using a toll-free number is paid by the called party (the toll-free subscriber) instead of the calling party.

This means that you (the caller) do not pay to dial the phone number; the person or company that you call is the party that pays the long distance charges.

If you choose to remove/cancel long distance service on your home telephone line this will not impact your ability to reach or dial toll-free numbers.

Not really. It depends if 800 are listed with 1, if they are listed as 1-800 that means it is a toll free number in US.

    Toll free means toll free.

Toll free means long distance charges don't usually apply.
