Is there more than one way to catch headlice?

My 4 year old autistic daughter has developed head lice. My other two children have no signs of it whatsoever. The only children my 4 year old has been in contact with are my own children, and my best friends sons, who have no hair. No one else we know has it... how could she have gotten it?

Update:

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, but the only people she shares hair things with is her 6 year old sister, and school in Ontario doesnt start till next week. because she is autistic she doesnt get close enough to anyone for them to touch her hair, which is why I am so confused. I know how to get rid of them, as the older children had them last year, but I am just trying to figure out how she got them this time.

The only way is contact with someone else (head to head) that has them or having something like a towel put around the neck or a used pillow that they may be on.

They cannot fly or jump so must walk from place to place. You must wash everything after a bout of the blighters and any medication that says it kills everything in one go is lying, they only can kill the walking so must be reapplied a week or so later when the eggs have hatched.

Has someone else put a scarf etc around her or even just hugged her, or though I hate to say it, has she been to the hairdressers (do they boil wash all towels after every use?).

They can only be caught by contact.

Yes there is if people share clothes, hats, hair clips, and other hair stuff they could catch lice. Try to wash all her stuff and get rid of her stuffed animals because they could have lice on them witch will make it worse and wash her bed sheets. And maybe if you can you could try to get her carpet clean. Hope this helps you and your daughter.

You can get it from brushing up against someone in a grocery line, you can get it from bus seats, cab seats, even your own car seat if someone has had them and been in there. it's also possible that one of your older children carried them from school into your house and gave it to your younger child without getting it themselves.
