i am doing an essay on a farewell to arms on how the protagonist Lt. Henry has evolved and changed throughout the story....... im halfway done wit the essay but i cant figure out how exactly did Lt. Henry changed throughout the story...... any advice please.........

Frederic Henry Timeline and Summary
• Frederic and Catherine meet in the Italian town of Gorizia where she works as a V.A.D. nurse, and he drives ambulances for the Red Cross in the Italian army.
• They begin a romantic relationship, but Frederic gets called to the front, and is wounded by a mortar shell.
• He’s transported to an American hospital in Milan, and Catherine follows him there. When he sees her he knows he’s in love with her. They are together in Milan for approximately three months, he convalescing, and she tending to the wounded.
• Frederic insults Miss Van Camden and loses his leave time.
• He and Catherine get a room and then he goes back to Gorizia and back to the front.
• He works like crazy during the retreat, but when he loses him ambulances, kills a sergeant and most of the men with him, eh thinks it’s time to make a change. So he swims across the river, deserting his post without permission.
• Back in Milan he finds out that Catherine is in Stresa, Italy, and he goes there to find her.
• After a few days together they flee to Switzerland in the night when they hear Frederic is to be arrested in the morning.
• They live together happily in Switzerland until the baby is due.
• The baby and Catherine both die in the hospital and Frederic walks back to the hotel in the rain.

Character Analysis
Frederic Henry runs the show, and the past, in A Farewell to Arms. And he does it from the future – his future, anyway. The good news is, Frederic doesn’t need a fancy time machine to go back in the past. He uses the oldest trick in the book: the first-person, past tense narrator. When you see a first-person, past tense narrator, you can usually count on two things:
1. The narrator is remembering important things from his or her past. In this case, the narrator is remembering his tragic love affair with Catherine, and the tragic events he witnessed and experienced in
World War I.
2. The narrator wants to communicate and even confess these memories to….Who? Well, unless the narrator is addressing a specific character in the novel, which is not the case here, anyone who will listen, meaning, by default, the readers. And, as we promise to make clear in the "Ants on a Log" section of this analysis, he wants to confess because he seems to feel responsible for the tragic ends met by those he loved. MORE…
