Why was the Omega symbol chosen to represent ohms/resistance?

    The letter O is not useful as it can be confused with the number zero. So the greek equivalent, omega, was used instead.

    I think because they both start with the same letter: Omega and Ohms.

    Just like in maths Sigma represents Summation and Pi represents a Product.

    I love animals, but I'm dead scared of them. Lol. Hmm, So, I guess I would choose a moon symbol to represent me. 'Cos I just love moonlights, and anything that has to do with the moon.

    very often it is to avoid confusion with other symbols or because of its close resemblance to the inventor's name...

    same as why E for the value of volts

    I for the value of current

    A for Amps W for Watts
