Just taking into account the pitchers after the Cy Young award was established, now finally Nolan Ryan can make a case to be considered the best.

Honorable mention goes to Juan Marichal. Not only did he not win despite having seasons where he was:

    1963: 25-8, 2.41

    1964: 21-8 2.48

    1965: 22-13 2.13

    1966: 25-6 2.23

    1968: 26-9 2.43

    1969: 21-11 2.10

but he didn't even get a single vote in any of those years! His only Cy Young votes came in 1971 when he was 18-11, 2.94 and that was an 8th place finish.

For the MVP there are quite a few possibilities, Mel Ott, Mark McGwire, Jim Thome, Al Kaline, Eddie Mathews, Dave Winfield but I'm going to go with Manny Ramirez. 514 career HR and a .314 batting average. He is 8th all time in slugging, 15th in HR, 34th in total bases, 19th in RBI's, yet his best MVP finish was a couple of 3rd places in 1999 and 2004.

Ok, since the Cy Young award was first awarded in 1956-Walter Johnson and company should not be in the discussion.

My choice would be Juan Marichal from the Giants. He pitched in the National League in the 60's that was dominated by Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson.

As for MVP, again it has only been in existence by the Baseball Writers since 1931. My choice would be:former Braves third basemen and HOFer Eddie Matthews. Again, he played in the era of greats. And every year Eddie would go 30HR, 100RBI.

    Those are mine

Definitely Cy Young. However, since the award wasn't given out until after Cy Young retired, I believe that Nolan Ryan has been the best to not win the award.

BQ: Hmmm..........obvious answers include a lot of old-timers back in the earlier days of baseball. However, I will go with Ozzie Smith. Not known for his bat, but could do many wonders in the field.

Walter Johnson - because he was better than Cy Young

Derek Jeter should have but has not yet won an MVP.

    Juan Marichal.

243 wins, a 2.89 ERA (lower than Bob Gibson's), 2,303 Ks and six 20 win seasons.

    BQ: N/A
