Baseball trivia: Only for baseball experts?
I wonder how many people can answer these baseball trivias:
1. Can a hitter legally swing at a ball twice assuming he swung and missed at swinging it the first time?
2. Can a hitter(for some reason) swing his bat holding the end of the bat while using the handle of the bat to hit the ball?
3. Has there ever been a triple steal?
4. Has there ever been a game-winning triple? (this is gonna be a really trick question)
5. A baseball hitter watches 4 strikes go by without lifting the bat off hsi shoulder, but yet he has yet to be called out. How?
6. What happens if a ball from the bullpen(after being thrown from a reliever warming up) happens to roll to the outfield just as the in-game ball is hit to the outfield and for a hit. What happens to the hitter if the bullpen ball is thrown from his team?
7. And Ill finish off with an easy-peazy one: How can a pitcher strikout a hitter with one pitch?
BQ: Without looking, which pitcher has the most losses on the season?
BQ: Well this flatters me...4 stars, 0 answers. :P
EDIT: Big Smoke, well you have done well so far, for number 5, notice how the question is phrased, "he watches the ball go by"...no foul balls in this scenario.
EDIT: Yes, lets just say it is one-pitch total.

Well ya tricked me on some of them here I go without looking it up.
1. Yes
2. yes
3. Yes
4. Gotta be with all the history and I know the trick.
5. The stance? The umpire calling it a ball?
6. Unless it's really hard to figure it out, my guess a ground rule double or a dead ball.
7. 2 pitchers finished off a batter on strikes.
BQ: Aaaah! Jose Contreras?
- 1 decade ago
1. No, swinging and missing is a strike
2. He could, as long at the bat conforms to the rules, but it would be stupid because it would break the bat.
3. Yes, the Indians did it in 2008 against the White Sox.
4. That depends a lot on how you define it. Yes, a game can be won with a triple and a throwing error (walk off triple). A batter can get an RBI triple in some other winning and that is the winning run of the game.
5. Warm up pitches or he's on the on deck circle and takes strike one in his at bat.
6. It's a dead ball and the batter and following runners are stopped at where they were when in incorrect ball was picked up. This is based on the umpires judgement.
7. A pinch hitter comes in assuming a two strike count.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes, Ty Cobb alone has been apart of 6 triple steals.
4. I'm sure there has been at least one. It would have to be so that the runner that scored was slowly going around and the batter that hit the ball reached 3rd base before the runner scored.
5. One of the strikes hit his bat when it was on his shoulder for a foul ball.
6. Either it's a dead ball situation and the batter stays at the base or goes an extra base, or the fielder better go back and get the original ball.
7. The pitcher came into the game to face a batter and the batter already had two strikes on him. The first pitch the pitcher throws is a strike and there is a strikeout.
BQ: Believe it or not I actually do know this one, it is John Coleman with somewhere in the 40's.

1. That's a tough one, I'll say no.
2. Seems pathetic, but I don't a rule about that, so sure.
3. Yes, I know I've seen one before on a baseball documentary on ESPN Classic.
4. Well there can, say it's 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth and the person gets a triple but let's say the right fielder over threw the ball and it missed 3rd and and guy would go home. It would be a game winning triple.
5. Wow, I can't wait to hear the answer for this one. It's probably something obvious but I have no idea. Maybe the ump lost count...
6. I'm guessing nothing. Because once at Wrigley a ball got lost the ivy but a different ball popped out a couple feet away from the ivy. It was weird but nothing happened. If it was thrown from his bullpen, hmmmm, it might be an automatic out/strike but I doubt it.
7. If they erase/cover the batters box line that's an automatic strike, if they take to long to get in the box, and 1 strike.
BQ: I think Jose Contreas (idk how to spell his last name) or that one guy on the reds, I saw on Sportscenter but I forget his name.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Yes. I remember this happened in Minnesota a couple of years ago, I think Justin Morneau. He reached third base before the run scored.
5. Hmm... I'll say the ump lost count.
6. Either he has to throw the game ball or it's a timeout and no pitch. Or, they tell pitchers not to throw with a ball in play in case of this.
7. A reliver comes in with 2 strikes on the batter.
BQ: I'll say Aaron Harang

re Question 4:
Back in maybe the 1920s they changed a rule re gamewinning shots. Used to be that if, say a man (the winning run) was on first, score tied, bottom of 9th or later, and the batter hit one into the seats, the batter would only be awarded the number of bases necessary to score the runner, e.g., a runner on 2nd, a "HR" would be ruled only a double. I'm sure the sitch posed in your question came up, runner on third, game tied, bottom of 9th or later has happened under that rule but am not gonna look it up in my old MacMillan reference to see who did it. The reference gives a list of players who had HRs downsized to fit the occasion. There is a list of maybe 10 or 12 such cases.
Nice question!

4..What's tricky? Runner at 1B, batter hits a drive into the RF corner, runner scores, batter-runner (if he reaches 3B) is credited with a game-winning triple.
Also, this scenario: 7.05 Each runner including the batter runner may, without liability to be put out, advance-
(b) Three bases, if a fielder deliberately touches a fair ball with his cap, mask or any part of his uniform detached from its proper place on his person. The ball is in play and the batter may advance to home base at his peril;
(c) Three bases, if a fielder deliberately throws his glove at and touches a fair ball. The ball is in play and the batter may advance to home base at his peril.

I can't think of one at the top of my head but wacky things happen in baseball. So I'll say yes.
I'd think they'd pause the game and have someone get it.
My guess is get one pitcher to get 2 strikes and the reliever gets him to strike out.
