Why does the heater blow hot air out on the passenger side but not the driver side?

Check to see if your air blend door is working.in the past they used to be mechanical, now they are electric or vacuum. And No the battery has nothing to do with this.

First off no you don't need a battery. If your car stalled because the battery ran out of juice than, for the majority, you still wouldn't need a battery.

It's most likely what the other guy said, the one about it having something that directs air flow considering your getting hot and cold easily. If you getting hot and cold constantly at the same time than it's probably along the same problem. Unless you know how to take the front console/dash off/apart or have the patience to do so your probably going to get reemed.

I believe there is a blender door Under the dash console usually near the floor or just above that is actuated by a vacuum motor. That is operated by a selector switch that is usualy a vacuum switch. Check for a broken or loose vacuum hose. Possibly a hose that is off in the duct work. Check the blender door operation first.
