Should a part-time employee get a raise?
My best friend has been working part-time for a contractor for almost 5 years and her pay rate is actually really great! Cost of living steadily increases, however, in the 5 years of being there, she has not gotten a single raise. She wants to know - should she ask for one? I'll save my opinion because she wants unbiased opinions . . .

Theer are usually two type of Part Time Employment
- Contract Based
- Permanent
Contract based employment is renewed after a certain period of time. Not sure what your freind has been signing in if she is on a contract. She has the right to negotiate on clauses in the contract that also includes financial stuff. This is the point when she can ask for a raise
If she is a permanent employee, then I wonder why she has not asked for a raise yet. According to Labor Law, every employee with minimum one year of service should have a revised salary depending upon the performance. In cases where employer do not give raise includes
- bad performance throughout the year
- justified financial crisis of the employer
- employee has used more than the allocated leave quota
The salary raise has nothing to do with part/full time employment. It is just about the category of employment in which your friend falls.
Hopefully this helps!!

When I worked for Wal-mart I got my first eval. 6 moths after I started. And it is a set time It cant be any faster. If you have a good work performance you should get a better raise . and maybe down the line become full time.
