Recently Jon Garland got traded during a game to the team he was playing. Can the following scenario happen?

The Reds are playing the Brewers. Votto and Fielder are both in the game. In the 4th inning, they are traded for each other. Can either enter the game for their new team? I know Joel Youngblood played for two teams in one day.

Update:

edit: I know the trade is far fetched, just needed two names to use.

No I think they need to be on their respective teams 25 man active roster before the game starts.

The closest to that situation that happened was on May 30, 1922. Max Flack and Cliff Heathcote were traded between games of a double header. Both players played in each game. Once for each team.

I could, if they planned before the game and got everything sorted out, jeez, that would be a bad trade, Votto stays with the Reds, i cant stand Fielder

I would guess it'd be possible but highly doubt it would happen. When players are traded they have to go through paper work signing, get their jerseys with their names on the back, learn the teams signs, practice with the team, meet their new boss and teammates, a lot of things happen with a trade too much to just walk from one dugout to the other.

Crader has it right - the only way it could happen is if the current game were to be suspended and resume on a different day.

    no that cant happen.

especially in jon garland and jim thome's cases,

because they WERENT traded to the team they were playing.

they got traded from the WHITE SOX

    to the DODGERS.

    and its NOT INTERLEAGUE PLAY

so they couldnt have possibly been playing each other.

    ok?
