Repainting and updating my ANCIENT kitchen and need ideas for painting and storage ideas.?

My kitchen is a mere 10' X 8' and has two large windows side by side over the sink area. My plan is to paint the walls and cabinets to unify the space, replace a beat counter top, put an undercounter dishwasher (I presently have a portable one that takes up 1/4 of the space). I love to cook, but there is little cup board space, so I have gone with a large pot rack over the sink, taken some leftover cabinets from my Mom's place and made a pantry in another room of the house near the kitchen. Any ideas for help here would be greatly appreciated! I am leaning towards timeless colors (liking the Mineral Blue, Ultra White and Moonshine yellow for a color combo). So far, have paint a wall with the yellow (very pretty!) the trim in outlined in the Mineral Blue and the door trim is the Ultra White. Looks good so far. Still priming and painting and don't have full gallons of paint yet, but will by next week! Ideas anyone?

You are so organized. That's great.

One thing though. keep all the trim a bright white. It looks clean and highlights the wall color.

I also love the colors you've chosen.

Since it is a small space , keeping it all one wall color will help. You might want to do just one wall as an accent.

Can you add a stool or two ?

Also get some baskets to keep things in.Storage baskets will help keep order so things don't get crowed.http://www.target.com/Willow-4-pc-Wicker-Basket-Se...

This is amazing for under cabinet storage :http://www.target.com/Wine-Enthusiast-Hanging-Meta...

You really don't need a toaster. It just takes up room. i have a toaster oven and it can toast bread and so many more things.

I wish you the very best.

    Have fun.

The best investment I made for a small kitchen was to buy a double-sized island on wheels (2 ft x 4 ft, granite top). There are many to choose from! Affords me extra work space, storage (has utensil drawer, wine shelf, bottom shelf, towel bar). Also great for buffet entertaining, food platters...(can add festive table runner on top w/candles). Can roll out of the way if need be..but it makes the whole kitchen look updated! Even the vegetables look great in a large platter/bowl on display. Can use decorative baskets of any size to contain your things down below. (And if not using the entire wine rack for wine or bottles, place a tray across it or use it to store larger items like a grill, cookbooks, whatever). The island does not have to be "matchy-matchy" in color with the other paint..let it be its own focal point of interest. Add 1 or 2 stools for someone to join you while you're busy in the kitchen. I've received many compliments on the one I have! (I recommend when assembling one, to use wood glue in addition to what's provided for sturdier, lasting function).

PS..if you're using a dinette set..maybe switch it to another room?

Source(s): Have one myself and know how useful it is--and everyone just loved the idea of having the kitchen geared to function, practicality and be appealing, too.
