What is a good book for my wife and I to read together (fiction)?
I read to my wife while she is in the shower. We've read everything from Anne Rice to Nicholas Sparks. We just finished The Time Travelers Wife but we can;t find a new book to read. We're looking for something that is well written with solid character development and emotional or social depth, No Twilight answers. We have read through New Moon and plan to continue the series but we're taking a break because Meyer gives me a headache. We like some steamy romance but not smut. No Sci Fi or fantasy unless it is EXTREMELY well done.Horror could be okay. If you need more details just ask.
This is a tradition we started when we got back from our honeymoon (we've been married for five years) I wanted her to read Interview with a Vampire and she had realyy hard classes that semester and didn't have time. So I decided to read it to her. We have just kept reading like that every night. We love cross culture as well. We read Memoirs of a Geisha and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Patterson sounds promicing though.

I was GOING to say Nicholas Sparks :)
Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson is great.
The Miraculous Journey Of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo (Don't let the idea of a story about a toy rabbit scare you away, it's actually very uplifting and brought tears to my eyes.)
I'm currently reading Identical by Ellen Hopkins, but by what you've said I'm not positive it's what your looking for (it's good though.)
I always get on Barne and Noble, search up a book I loved and then look at the little box that says "People who bought this also bought..." and I find something.

"Sundays at Tiffany's"
"Sam's Letters to Jennifer"
"Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas"...all three by James Patterson
"Honeymoon" also by James Patterson is very good, suspense, horror, crime, and romance all tossed together, very steamy.
All of JP's books deal with some extent of romance, and MOST are suspense. I love The Women's Murder Club books. "First to Die"=sooo good.
Jodi Picoult writes really well-crafted novels with developed characters and emotional/social depth
"My Sister's Keeper"
and her new book "Handle with Care" to name a couple...
My mind is blanking. I hope you will like those...
