What is it called when a thumb-sucking child rubs a blanket?

You know when a kid has her thumb in her mouth, and is rubbing a piece of fabric (pillow case, "blankie", etc) between her fingers and palm on that same hand... I am sure there was a word for it. What is that word?

    Didn't know that had a specific name? that's what a child does to comfort themselves I guess.
