If Atheism is not a Religion, then why...?
Come on here trying to convert people? Why come into the Religion area on here? Why not the science, politics, environment, culture, parenting- somewhere where it's more appropriate for a subject that is supposedly not religious?

Where to start?
This is not just the pro-religion section, nor is it exclusively about religion. It is for people who want to discuss religion and/or spirituality, not just for people who want to quietly state how wonderful their own religion is and then hear back only from people who agree. Discussion sometimes, perhaps often, includes disagreement and exposure to the other point of view.
Why do atheists come here if atheism is not a religion? Because religion impacts our lives just as it impacts the lives of theists. Should we just sit quietly and let theists have their way with our governments, our schools, our textbooks, our laws, our store hours, etc.? When I say "our", I mean those that belong to everyone, not just to theists and not just to atheists. Shall we also just allow theists to say those who do not believe in a god cannot be decent human beings, should never be elected to public office, cannot testify in court, etc.?
Why do you care whether or not atheism is defined as a "religion"? Is that the main problem for you? Okay, so let's call it a religion for a moment and see what happens: Are we now more moral in your eyes, do we now have a belief in a deity, an afterlife, a value system you can understand and, perhaps, relate to? Or is it really simply our living without a belief in a deity that irks you?
Sorry, but no matter how you or anyone else defines atheism, you will not chase us from this section, nor from any public sphere.

You don't like atheists being here? Too bad. Expressing an opinion is not the same as trying to convert people. And discussing religion is not the same as being religious. That's a simple concept that seems to go way over the head of a great many Christians on this site. For proof just look at how many times questions similar to yours have been asked.

It's not a religion. The only thing atheists have in common is the lack of belief in deities.
However, SOME atheists are spiritual or religious. And regardless, this section isn't for religious people only. It's for the questions/answers/discussion related to religion and spirituality, which is very much a part of our lives even if we are not religious.
When Yahoo is no longer a secular site and is for religious people only, we'll let you know.
I go to several different sections, not just this one. Do you?
This is asked a lot. Use the search feature.

This question is asked everyday.
I notice many folks all of different religious flavours have no clue about the fact this is called religion AND spirituality.
You don't have to be a lawyer to be on the law and ethics section.
It's like telling you to go to the "ethics" section.
It seems as if religious types love telling atheists where to go, what to do, and what will happen to them if they don't.
Does every atheist have to be interested in science, politics, environment, culture and parenting?
Why can't I be interested in religion AND spirituality and comment or question whenever I please?
Why not go to a NON PUBLIC FORUM where everyone thinks the same as you so you don't have to deal with the likes of atheists?

Because there is NO such thing as a non believer and before you get all riled up remember that Satin Believes~ He has Seen God and Jesus since his own Creation however he is subverting the beliefs and blinding the non believer to God and His Truth~
Agnostics and Atheists and everyone else may not admit it but they do believe or they would not be so frightened of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ!
The Very Proof of this is found in their responses to the Gospel when it is presented here by Christians!

If people are not cats why are they in the cat section? Why come to the Cat area on here? Why not the science, politics, environment, culture, parenting- somewhere where it's more appropriate for a subject that is supposedly not cats?
I it is like they think is a section ABOUT cats not FOR cats! and then these atheists think it is ABOUT religion for FOR the religious!?!? that grinds my gears!

Atheism not being a religion there is nothing to which to convert, proselytizing is solely something the Christians and Muslims do, you only ask the question because you don't want to admit your error.

Occasionally there are a few people who demonstrate something resembling intelligence. I am here to try and save those from the dark side. If I can get them to actually think then they will be saved. Thinking isn't a religion, just something very foreign to fundies.

Atheists aren't trying to convert people, most of them are here to answer the absurd accusations made by many of the Christians on this forum.
In any case, it's a forum for discussing Religion & Spirituality, not an exclusive forum for religious people. If that's what you want, there are plenty of other places you can go.

I think Atheism is a religion, at least in the sense that the same parts of the brain that help us become religious are involved when we try to become atheists as well.
