What are are you operating on? I'm going to assume Windows, in which case you can create a new compressed (zipped) folder, to which you can apply a password if you so desire.

File > New > Compressed folder

Double click the folder, File > Add Password > Type in your password and confirm it.

Those were XP directions, but they're not much different in Vista (XP was all I had near me at the moment).

You cannot protect a compressed folder without a password.

Your password is not recoverable if you lose it.

best is to store them in encripted or password protected format inexternal hard disk drive or DVD and keep it in lock and key
