If you want to stop taking them, then stop taking them.

Can you live with the pain? Can you manage the pain with ibuprofen or acetaminophen or aspirin?

I got wiped out on my motorcycle about three weeks ago -- fractured pelvis and cracked ribs, can't walk until those heal. I have a lot of sympathy for your situation! I refused the morphine as soon as I could, and stopped taking vicodin when I left the hospital. I'm taking acetaminophen now, not enough to clobber my liver, I hope.

The best way is cold turkey if you are serious about getting off pain meds. You will feel like you are dying for 3 to 5 days but, it is the only way. You can expect to experience: sweating, fever, vomiting, cold chills, shaking, cramping, extreme nausea...all flu-like symptoms. The extreme side effects will subside in about 5 days but you will feel rough for a week or two...queasy, etc. If you are on pain meds for legitimate pain management associated with chronic pain, there are other solutions available now-a-days. I would suggest you get your patient file from your current doctor and take it to a pain management specialist for assistance. Hydrocodon can cause severe kidney and liver damage if taken for long periods of time, or if exceeding the proper dosage. You certainly don't want to cause yourself such harm... Please take care of yourself. Best wishes! :0)

It's very difficult to overcome addiction alone. You should think about getting professional help. They're services are discreet and they offer financing. Out patient rehab programs can accommodate your normal daily tasks and assist you in relapse prevention. Good luck

Set an appointment up with your doctor.

    Bring the meds with you.

Tell him this is what you have, can you set a schedule for me to come off both drugs.

He doesn't want you on them if you don't need them or dont' want to be on them.

Be honest and he'll safely get you off the drugs.
