Any suggestions for reusing an old bicycle helmet, please?

I recently took a tumble off my bike and dented my helmet on the road - better than denting my head, but I still have the headache! As the helmet was three and a half years old I decided a replacement was definitely due.

Anyway, I'm wondering if you have any good ideas for reusing it as something else, please. So far I'm pondering a hanging basket for flowers or some such, but it'll look more unique than attractive :-)

If it matters, it is a Bell Triton in black [1], although I bought it at my local bike shop, as I did the replacement in white/silver. It might not be the most technical of helmets, but I have a 62cm hat size and I'm happy with the fit/comfort of the make/model.

NB. Previously posted in Environment > Green Living. I'm hoping for some different perspectives here.

    1) Hanging basket

    2) Kiddies dressing up box

    3) fruit basket

    4) Slice in half and you have book ends

    5) Hang it on view in an elderly neighbours porch so that burglars think a young fit person is at home.

    6) Funky lamp shade

Thanks I'll do the last with mine!

Gee Phill I can see why you want to replace your three and a half year old, mine was a real tearaway and has dented various parts of my anatomy in the past. I would suggest going through a good agency to find an appropriate home for him/her, but if you want to retain ownership just go for bridging care and get them back when they are doctors or lawyers so they can look after you in your dotage.

    Hope this helps,

Make a hanging basket suspended from spokes and a chain.

I was going to suggest putting a plant in it.What's wrong with it being unique far better than being attractive in my eyes. Anyway it could be both.

You could invert it, fill it with compost & grow mint in it - that way the mint roots wouldn`t spread all over the garden.

You could keep it in your car in case of traffic jams on long journeys??

You can use it in a drama for comic sake.
