Anyone had you popcorn ceilings removed?

Around how much did it cost per sq.ft.?

Update:

Ours is dry and when my husband hammers in the attic it falls off in small amounts. It hasn't been painted in any areas except one small area in a spot where I had to kilz and paint because the hubby let the tub overflow in the upstairs tub.I think it will come off easily.

Update 2:

The house was built in 86. Even though the manufacture of popcorn product containing asbestos was banned in 78 they actually allowed it to be used until 86. It is most likely not in ours but then again could be.

That is one of those things that all depends on the job. Some popcorn comes off easy while others do not. mult. coats of paint make it worse. how many obsticals are there on ceiling and floor area. Height of ceiling, material under.... List goes on. You should provide more info in order to get a decent idea. Otherwise it's a toss guess

It only cost $15 to test the material. It's not worth the risk to remove it without knowing. If it test ok, spray a little water as you scrape. This will loosen it and keep the dust down. Wear a respiratory and eye protection just to be safe.
