Are you required to put your pants inside your boots in the field?

Of course. That's the reason you tuck your pants legs into your boots and blouse them. It's designed to keep dirt, trash, etc. from falling down into your boots.

I overheard a discussion my cadre was having about this the other day. One of them was saying that they were doing morning PT and one of the guys didn't tuck his pants into his boots. Well when he ran through the grass... he got a bunch of chiggers in his boot.

Oh how lovely a day that must have been after that!

Just tuck them in. You're not supposed to try to make a fashion statement.

I suppose you could use boot straps as well, but most just tuck them in. You are required to do one of those though, yes, it's a uniform violation if you don't, in the field or not.

Try wrapping your leg in the extra denim (from the flare) and fold over the flap it creates at the bottom by the foot...then try pulling the boots on...I hope I explained this right...this is how I put mine on and it works....

You have to follow the uniform regulations- however, you can use "blousers" which are little stretchy straps to roll your pants legs into to make them look tucked, and they are allowed. :)
