Can I Do This Without Many Problems?

O.K. Here's the situation. My desk top PC is 64 bit capable (AMD Athlon 64). Customer service also informed me that it is a 64 bit capable PC. But, my current Windows Vista operating system is only 32 bit. When I upgrade to Windows 7, can I load in the 64 bit version without much hassle? I know that I'll have to "update" some of my "third party" software, but that is no problem. My question is, can I upgrade from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit 7 without much hassle?

You cannot do an in-place upgrade from a 32 bit to 64 bit operating systems. You must do a clean install to change between 32 and 64 bit operating systems.

Before doing a clean install, you must backup your data, as it will deleted during the install process when it formats the drive. Also, you will have to re-install all of your programs. Most 32 bit programs will run on a 64 bit operating system, however all hardware will need updated 64bit drivers.
