I have a small bedroom with dark blue carpet and off white trim. What color should I paint the walls?

I have a very small bedroom and the carpet is dark blue (not quite navy). Built-ins and a window cover one whole wall. Other wall has a closet with accordian doors. All trim is off white as are the built-ins. I cannot change the carpet of trim colors. I will essentially be painting two full walls as well as the one with the closet on it. I need help making this room look bigger and don't exactly know what color would best help me accomplish this..Any help?

I don't think going with neutral color tones here is the key (or necessary), since you already have so much neutrality with the off-white trim. I think if you stick with sunny (light) versions of colors such as a light violet or a honey baby yellow (remember I said baby yellow, not like school bus yellow), you will brighten up the room and add dimension. Another trick in adding dimension, a decorative large mirror.

    Good luck!

A lighter blue or gray for the walls with the blue carpet would work well. As for the black and white checkerd floor walls, something that would work with the color you chose for the reception area if the walls touch or can be seen while in the waiting area. You don't want to get too funky with super clashing colors. You could use a sea foam green color. That way you stay in the aqua family of colors.

There are a lot of ways to accomplish what you want, but the easiest is to run with an aquatic theme.

If you start with an aqua/teal coat then paint in curvy lines of modulating thickness in cornflower, waves if you will. Then all you need do is add silhouettes, carvings or sculptures of sea creatures and the human imagination will usually make the room seem bigger; because of the association with the vastness of the ocean.

If you don't feel like putting that much work into it you could also paint it sand or taupe. Just put glass ornaments on the window and shade any artificial light sources with image decorated covers. The Sun moving you window's ornamental refractions and the distraction of nighttime light variances can do much to draw the mind away for a room's size.

Keep the small room's off white walls, but for a dramatic offset, add one wall that is a darker beige (almost brown). These colours are neutral: white, beige, grey, brown, and black. Most neutral colours add depth to the space, (except the darker ones), and an accent wall with the darker beige will help make the room seem bigger. Also, a skillful application of the darker beige colour around trim (window frame and door frame, closet frame, etc.) will make it look very sharp. Good luck!

I am an interior design student, 3rd year in. Our teachers have taught us to find inspiration photos. My suggestion is to google images that have the words "residential, bedroom, blue carpet, or interior space". You will be surprised at all the photos that pop up. You will get a ton of ideas that may help you out. Good luck! :-)

lighter colors will make the room appear larger... if you want to match it with your closet, try a light blue or an off white with blue tones. but whatever you do, try to make it a light color

A light yellow would be great with the dark blue and white. My friend did this with her bedroom, and it's very peaceful and relaxing.

I'd go for an off white or beige colour for the walls

I would go with a white or light blue. You don't want to clash with your carpet but have a complimenting color.

of course a tan color better to accent room and not make it look like its closing in
