I've lost access to folders on my thumb drive. Can anyone help?

A week or two ago, my thumb drive started acting strangely. My file folders had been converted to .exe. Someone told me that a network I use had caught a virus that affected usb ports. I ran Malwarebytes on the thumb drive; now I can't find the folders at all. I know the data is still there; I can get them from recent files in MS office. But I can't access the folders or the files within them from Windows explorer. Please help! I have urgently important data on there.

Update:

@person with funny ASCII name: ha ha. Formatting will help me lose all my data kthxbai.

@first answerer: what file recoverer would you recommend?

Update 2:

Any time I check "Show hidden folders," it's unchecked next time I go back to that menu. And I don't have anything under folder options that says "sharing"

try going to folder options, and selecting show hidden files and folders.

If that doesn't work you could try downloading and running a file recovery program.
