Where were you when the Towers went down?

I really don't want to remember it. It's the day the earth stood still.

I was getting ready for work and my step mom called me when the first one got hit and I was at work when the second one was hit. I think we all went in to a state of shock. I remember how the the world looked from outer space. There was no airplane patterns down on earth that's why I say it's the day that the earth stood still.

So where were you?

I was at my desk, less than 1 mile north of the Towers. My eldest son was on his way to a class 1 block east of the Towers. It took me hours before I was able to contact him, or my wife who had to teach knowing that her husband one eldest son were just outside of ground zero. Neither pay phones nor cell phones were working. I was finally able to get a line when I got home, after walking 4 of the 8 miles and catching a bus for the last four miles.

At home, in Michigan, completely oblivious. My husband called me from work, asked if I was watching the news. When I said no, he told me to turn it on, quickly. Kind of freaked me out. Just after I turned it on, the second tower was falling. I didn't understand what was going on. It took a while for me to really grasp it. We had been planning a ten day vacation starting on the 14th; we were going to go up through Sault Ste. Marie into Canada, across Canada to upstate New York, visit my brother in Connecticut, then he was going to take us into New York City while we were there. We missed it by just a few days. The Canadian borders didn't open back up until the day we were leaving; we thought we would have to re-route our trip. The people in Canada were unbelievably super nice to us while we were there. We wore pins of the American flag on our shirts. Certainly a day none of us will ever forget!

Living in oregon, had just gotten up and turned on the morning news, saw katie couric and the rest of my thought was" this is a really strange movie, why is she doing a movie?" and then I realized it was not....

I sat down and prayed...had coffee and prayed...

was working at a telephone call center at the time; take the phone orders for catalogs, etc. many of our lines were turned over to start accepting donation calls and referral numbers for business that went down.was a very strange time.

It was my day off in college and I was at home.. Then everyone started calling me waking me up because my mom worked at a military base near DC so they were all freaking out.

Then i went to the shopping center, and then Best Buy and got a copy of Advance Wars for the GBA... Every time a plane flew by everyone freaked out!

I was on the streets of New York, trying to find some place to go. They had evacuated my building and dumped all of us out on the street with no plan for sheltering us, in case something else happened (I work near the U.N. and they were worried about it being a target too) or getting us home or some place safe.

I was at home with a toddler and pregnant with my second child. My mother called me and told me to turn on the news. I was watching when the second plane hit. The emotions I felt then were so strong that they easily come back to me when I think about it. I was very scared for myself, my children and my country.

As time passes, I understand that these things happen, that every generation has their moments - and I think forgetting about them and/or not thinking and acting rationally with regards to them is partly why these things keep happening.

I was Frozen/in shock after I realized what I was seeing, unimaginable, unbelievable, but there it was, I proceeded to get ready, kinda just struck, dumbfounded and drove to work the same...:-( I'll never forget what I felt on that day, then with the 3 day no fly, it was even more sureal/eery/still/stagnant...God Bless Us All and Keep Us

I worked the midnight shift, and so was in bed, getting my day's sleep. I got up around 11 AM to use the bathroom. My husband told me "We are at war." and pointed to the TV, with its horrific pictures. Needless to say, that was the end of any sleep for me that day.

At work that night, the boss brought in a TV for me to watch as I worked.
