You already know that Americanized Chinese food is over the top with calories, fat, sugar, and sodium. And while I agree with your parents that sometimes you do need to treat yourself, that treat should be something you really like and look forward to, not something you dread that blocks your arteries. I suggest you either plan ahead and pack yourself something balanced, lo-cal. and healthy. Or you can call China Wok ahead of time and see if they have healthy alternatives on their menu. Locally, I have Chinese restaurants, that of late, have created STEAMED meals, instead of fried. So you can get steamed veggies, like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, onions, green beans, carrots, peas, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and mushrooms. With a little soy sauce, and some raw peanuts or cashews. Where I live they are steamed without oil, salt or M.S.G., and come with either steamed chicken, shrimp, beef or pork., of which shrimp and chicken would be healthier, if the chicken is white meat. Beef is actually the "completest" protein for an athlete. As is egg, which may be available, because a lot of times they use it in stir fry. I personally have panic attacks in Chinese restraunts because white rice has no nutritional value. So I Don't eat it. Read your fortune and toss the cookie, and next time try to have a hand in deciding where to go. You'll be less stressed if you have more control.
