I think he's questioning his sexuality and/or ashamed of it. Talk to him about it in an open manner. Don't make fun of him or he'll coil away and feel uncomfortable. My guess is that he's either gay or questioning. Good luck :)

But it also sounds like he could be in denial or ashamed of admitting it. He could also still be in the "questioning" stage of his sexuality. I'd proceed with extreme caution on this one.

But if he was the first to bring up "Am I gay?" he's probably ok with you asking.

I think he's trying to come out to you. The no girlfriends and Am I gay told it, if that was a past conversation.

Just make sure that when you talk to him you make sure that you dont sound like a threat. Be a friend to him, be that shoulder he could cry on.
