What Lab-top would you recommend getting?

I am about to start school and I'm just curious what is the best brand, what should be on it and things like that. Thanks for the advice :)

I'm not going to recommend what laptop you should get as I have the macbook pro and i love it, but i dont want to be bias. So ill just tell you the specs you should be looking for in a modern laptop.

For school, you will need a 2.0 GHz intel core 2 duo processor. You realy wont need more than that unless you are going into graphic design or need a really good computer.

You should get at least a 160 GB hard drive, but most laptops will come with at least 250 GB. As for the speed of the hard drive, go with 5400 rpm as it will save power and reduce heat without much of a performance loss.

You will want at least 2 GB of RAM, preferably more.

Try to get a dedicated graphics card. In other words, dont get the intel media accelerator. Anything above the media accelerator will be good. Accelerator just cant handle modern games.

as for battery size, get at least a 9 cell battery. 9 cell will give you at least 4-5 hours of batter life.

Good luck and happy computer shopping.

I'm actually trying to decided whether to keep my Toshiba that I had just gotten from Best Buy. At first, I had a Dell Inspiron, but the keys popped off the first week. I was able to snap them back on, but I decided to exchange it for a Toshiba. Now, after reading that more people prefer HP, I'm thinking of exchanging my Toshiba for an HP. But I guess it all depends. Each brand has low end and high end models. So say if you were to go with a High End Toshiba over an Low End HP, the Toshiba would be better. I would recommend Mac, but, personally, the price is out of my price range right now. Not sure if it's the same situation for you. If you go to Best Buy, you can get a lap top, and within 14 days you can exchange it, if you're not satisfied, or get your money back. That's what I'm doing. Exploring my options before I pick the right one for me.

There really is no best brand as it's relative. I mean, a top of the line Toshiba would be better than a bargain-basement HP, even though most would say HP is a better brand.

Anyway, I tend to recommend HP and Dell for most people.

LAPtops (sure, they pass on your lap, although they could be utilized in labs yet that's not what they are stated as) very quite often use Lithium Ion batteries. Lithium batteries supply extensive skill means while in comparison with different varieties (NiMH, NiCd, and so on) yet have a constrained shelf existence. in assessment to different batteries, Lithium batteries do not probably lose means by way of consistent charging and discharging, they lose their means over the years no count in case you utilize it or not. A Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) battery that has been sitting on a shelf for 2 years can not paintings o.k. although if it became in no way somewhat used. that's additionally why you many times purchase new computing device batteries, in no way "extremely used" or "previous yet in no way used" ones. you are able to attempt to "revive" it by way of draining it very almost each and each of ways down, even previous it announcing low battery or 0 p.c.. computing device batteries are "clever" batteries, they have a working laptop or computing device chip that video demonstrate instruments how lots skill the battery has because it quotes and discharges. This chip desires to be attentive to the selection that the battery has to correctly tutor the battery existence. once you permit the battery drain previous 0, the chip adjusts its 0 point by way of fact it knows that the battery supplies you skill longer than it envisioned. This recalibration technique has some fulfillment, yet i would not permit it run till the computing device can't start up anymore, I tousled an previous ThinkPad battery by way of fact i think of I over-drained it and it would not charge.
