Is yahoo do maintenance or updating its mail system?
I'm missing a bunch of e-mails so I'm wondering if yahoo is doing an update or if my mail is just gone for good.

Yes, Yahoo has been doing upgrading and maintenance work, this can cause things to act squirrelly. If something does not work properly, then try it again. If it still does not work, sign out of Yahoo.
Then delete your temporary Internet files, history and cookies, some computers need to reboot. Once done, go back into Yahoo and see if that has helped. If you continue to have trouble, contact service representative and explain the problem to them.

It's an ongoing problem Yahoo are working on. There is an excellent thread with a lot of information on the subject on the forum.
