I am a grad student in speech and language pathology and have had to take many audiology courses. The dizziness is certainly caused by the fluid. The eustachian tubes equalize pressure, if they are not working properly, dizziness is a symptom. I think I would go to a different ENT. They should be able to remove the blockage and re-insert the tubes. I'm not sure where the weakness symptom plays in, but who knows. Good Luck.

I am 39 years old and have had tubes for over 10 years. I literally could not live without them. When they come out, I am dizzy, nauseated and have major headaches all of the time--nothing helps. As soon as I get tubes back in my ear, I am better instantly. I cannot imagine putting alcohol in my ears--why would you do that?! When I have an ear infection or a problem, my doctor prescribes an antibiotic eye drop called Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution by Falcon. I guess it works in ears too. Right now I am having major issues with my ears and an infection and I am using the solution right now. If you still have holes in your ears, I say go and get another set of tubes! Go to an ENT--try to find one that has a computer that enables them to send a little camera down your ear canal and show you what is happening on a T.V. It is so interesting! The best tubes that I had were T-tubes--they stay in the longest. If they ever get blocked or plugged, I use the above prescription and usually that helps. If not, I go back into the doctor and he puts another set in. Are you using earplugs when you shower? Water in your ears is the worst thing you can do! I have to wear earplugs when I shower, I don't swim and it is worth it to feel good again! The wax earplugs that mold into your ear works really well (in the pharmacy department). I am also on Allegra and when the fluid is bad, I will take a decongestant, morning and night along with the Allegra. My doctor also suggests a prescription nose spray, but that makes my headaches worse. I know I have a lot to say, but I am also desperate to network with others in my same situation.

I would LOVE any feedback on what has helped others. A problem that I am having is trying to keep my tubes in my ears. Lately my ears seem to be rejecting the tubes every few months. I am so sick when they come out. I am beginning to wonder if clenching my jaw forces the tubes out of my ears. Does anyone have any experience with this? Because my ears are so bad and severely calcified, I have also lost a lot of hearing. I now wear hearing aids--which again has been a life saver. (DO NOT take the problems you are having with your ears lightly! Get some help before you lose your hearing). I am curious if anyone has any experience with tubes and hearing aids also.

    Adult Ear Tubes

You mean grommets. They are tiny tubes a few millimeters in size that are inserted into the ear under general anesthetic to allow excess fluid to drain away. These used to be used on children with a condition called 'glue ear', but I thought their use was discontinued in favour of other less invasive treatments. They did the trick for my son, who had terrible pain when he was younger. Eventually the grommets fell out on their own. Good luck.
