Have you had any side effects such as swelling of the feet and hands?

i have had side effects, but not those. im extremely fatigued to the point of wanting to go to hibernation, and i get violently ill and throw up when i eat certain foods such as pizza and steak. im told this isnt normal, so im going to the doctor to make sure. maybe you should, too.

Yes I have been on Metformin for a long time and have not had any side effects but that doesn't mean you won't. You ought to tell your doctor about the swelling it might be caused by something else.

you do need to call you physician tomorrow. swelling of your feet can be a side effect of metformin, yes. but, i want you to call tomorrow just to make sure your kidneys are still functioning well enough to be taking metformin. your physician may or may not want to do blood work, depending on a variety of factors. i dont know you so i cant say anything with certainity.

    best wishes.

EDIT: actually about 10% of people who take metformin do have lower limb edema

I take Metformin but the only side affects I have are gas if I take it too soon before a meal. You need to consult your doctor about the swelling and I'd say ASAP.

Rather than changing medicines, you should try to control the leg edema. You should take the following steps:

Elevate the feet during sleep, by putting a pillow under your feet at night.

Support stockings: these are available at pharmacies. Wear them as often as you can.

Exercise: a sedentary lifestyle will make you more prone to this.

Low salt diet: cut down salt in your diet.

You need to go and see your doctor as soon as possible. I HAVE BEEN TAKING METFORMIN AND IT HAS NEVER CAUSED THAT KIND OF PROBLEM BUT THE AVANDIA i TOOK DID AND IT WAS CAUSING CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE. KIDNEY PROBLEM CAN ALSO CAUSE THE KIND OF SWELLING YOU ARE DESCRIBING SO GET IN TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY.
