question about potty training?
I have a two yr old who is potty trained. He has no problem urinating in the toilet but he will hold his poo forever. He asks to go the toilet but when we get there he refuses to use it. Does anyone have any solutions on how to get him to go. He is not constipated, he goes easily but he will hold it for two or three days before letting it out. is this normal? Is this just a power struggle? this is very frustrating. Any suggestions will be helpful.
we've done the bribes, reading stories while on the potty. we've even sang potty songs. He likes to go sit on the potty and he'll ask 10 times a day to go to the potty, (and we go every time he asks) I just can't get him to "let it out" when he gets on there.

I have 3 boys. There is something about going poo that is different. Yes it is normal. It just takes longer for them to get accustomed to it. I don't care for the getting a treat for going to the bathroom, because when does it end. I would just praise them, make a big deal of doing it, and we made up a song and dance that they found fun.

You should purchase a potty seat he can use at the grownup potty, or you'll make him use the child. Either means you can customarily must keep in the toilet with him till he is going for the primary few months of potty coaching. Don't assume him to be in a position to head in there and maintain it himself. Grab a publication and plant your self till he is going. Don't make it disturbing. You can present a gift of a few variety if he makes use of both potty (like 2 m&m's). Be sufferer although he is not and do not fear. Training takes time.

I wish I had YOUR problem when I was potty training mine. LOL!
I agree that offering a bribe (reward) would be one way to get results; it doesn't have to be food, it could be a Gold Star with sparkles, something to make him feel like he's accomplished a great task! Also, talk with your pediatrician the next time you take him in for a check-up; they often have good advice for these problems.
Good Luck!

Boys in that age just want to play, run and jump :) They dont want to take time to do the number 2.I think he finds going to the potty boring LOL.You could try reading him a story when he is on the potty,or you could sing together,or even play with toys.Make it fun, sorta like you do with bathtime

Intice him by giving him some chocolate if he goes to the loo.
