What vaccinations do I need to have to visit Georgia, USA?

September next year, I'm planning a ten day trip to Georgia to visit a long time friend, (I live in the UK) and we were just talking on-line and I suddenly realised that I'll need vaccinations.

Now I'm looking on Google but there's surprisingly little telling me what I'd need to get vaccinated for... either that or I'm looking on the wrong pages.

Any help or advice or links anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I know it's a year away, but I like to plan in advance :)

Update:

Lulu & Jen - Thanks! that's not too bad then, I'm assuming I'll need one for Rabies, and probably some malaria tabs but I wasn't sure if I should get anything else.

Laura D - I actually clicked to put it in the United states section, I know it's not part of Europe but my mouse must have slipped.

I failed geography in high school as it doesn't hold any interest for me. As long as the pilot knows where he's going .... Lol

Update 2:

Elle - thanks, To be honest, I'm petrified of needles of any sort, so I don't really keep up with my vaccinations. I intend to look at wildlife while I'm there, apparently there's a really nice bat cave near my friends place :D and I also know that for my mum to travel to Holland she needed a tetanus shot so I wasn't sure what vaccines I needed to get in general ... all you guys except Laura D have been really helpful though so thanks ... and thanks to anyone else who posts lol.

Really? You shouldn't need any vaccinations. There is no malaria in Georgia (or perhaps very little but trust me -- I grew up there and the only time I ever had a malaria vaccination was when I went to the coast of Africa.)

Rabies vaccination is a series, I think, and is only given if people have been exposed to rabies or are in very close proximity to rabid animals. While we do have rabies in the US, most animals that have it are wild, and unless you are traipsing around in the woods or in caves, meeting up with one of them is doubtful.

General vaccines that should likely be kept up to date when traveling anywhere (or just in general, regardless of travel) are tetanus, measles/mumps/rubella, meningitis, hepatitis.

But there's probably not much different about the vaccines we get in the US vs those you get in the UK. CDC does have info ... overall, though, you'll probably be fine with nothing. (Well, H1N1, perhaps -- but there might be some other illness spreading next year at this time.)

I am not sure what you think of Georgia in particular -- but the thought of needing vaccines to go there is a bit like needing them to visit London.

You only need shots if you are coming in from an infected area. If you've been to Africa or parts of Asia in the last six months prior to your visit to the US you will not need any shots. If possible, get a flu shot before you come. That's about it.

I think the CDC is the best place for you to go. Check out this site: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/united-st...

The recommended adult immunization schedule can be found here (as a pdf): http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5753-Immunization...

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your trip! Many areas in Georgia are beautiful!

The USA is not in Europe. I think you should go to geography class never mind vaccinations.
