    The length would have to equal the width.

    2x – 1 = 8 – 2x

    2x = 9 – 2x

    4x = 9

    x = 9/4 (or 2¼)

    to be a square then the length and width have to be the same so set it up like 2x-1 = 8-2x

    flip the 8-2x to -2x+8

    2x-1 = -2x+8

    subtact both sides by 2x and get

    -1= -4x+8

    subtract 8 from both sides

    -9= -4x

    divide both sides by -4

    and x= 9/4

    Ithink it comes out to:

    x=9/4, or 2.25

    2x-1=8-2x

    4x-1=8

    4x=9

    x=2.25
