Reed Sorenson racing for FREE.....?
After Richard Petty and Yates merged and left Reed without a ride team executives approached Sorenson during the summer with a pair of options: (1) Race the remainder of the season for no salary; or (2) take a buyout and go away.
Conflicted, frustrated, shocked and confused, Sorenson chose to race the remainder of the season for free. He said out of sight is out of mind. And out of mind is out of work. "The decision I made was to keep racing. The reason I did that is I thought it would help me find a job next year," Sorenson said. "And any race car driver that has the choice to sit at home or race is probably going to choose to race, unless they're at the end of their career. "I'm 23 years old. I want to have a long future in the sport. I didn't figure sitting at home was a good option to do that."
What do you think of Reed's decision?

Real racers never do it for the money.. Never have.. A large number already have money, or they would never have gotten as far as they did.. Getting into racing is expensive..

Wouldn't be room at JR Motorsports. Danica will be driving the 7 for the rest of the year except Charlotte. The 5 car was just an extra car for JR, it has only been ran the 3 times he's raced this year in Nationwide. They wouldn't have the finances for a whole 3rd team, especially since Reed doesn't have sponsors going with him. The 5 car was probably really a 7 or 88 car that was repainted/wrapped for him and he had to use the Cup 88 crew and some guy from inside JRM. Rust Wallace was thinking about closing his team because of 5 hour energy leaving, so I doubt they'd start another team for the rest of the year when they're already tight on money for 2 teams. Waltrip Pastrana maybe, but the sponsors were with Pastrana. I don't see that happening. Really, I think he would have to go to Harvick. JGR is trying to get the owners championship and would probably rather use a Cup guy like Logano. You have to remember though, this late in the season each ride will already be set up with a driver. So really Reed basically got screwed, it's as simple as that. If he can find a ride it probably won't be a quality ride and might not even be able to find one by this weekend.

I think Reed made a great decision!! He is a good driver who has been treated very unfairly by RPM just to accomodate Menard because of who his daddy is! It is sickening! To keep a field filler like Menard and kick Reed out is going to cause a BIG Karma to happen to RPM. They are going to crash & burn!
I am so glad Reed is not going away. I say to Teresa Earnhardt, bring the 8 back and put Reed Sorenson in it.
I read where McMurray will most likely end up in the 1 car next year and of course Montoya will be in the 42, so if they hire Reed, they will have all former Ganassi drivers together again.
Reed Sorenson is going to make RPM look like a fool for letting him go !!

I've never really been a Reed fan but after hearing this you've just got to love that he would still be willing to race without any pay. I hope he finds a ride next year and has the right team to race in the top 10.

Reed Sorenson is quite the young man. I had no idea about his situation. Good for him. That's the type of person you would want on your team. Dedicated to racing and hard working for no money!
What would happen if he got a paycheck? Wow! I'm curious too. Would they pay him anything if he ended a race in the top 10 or top 5?
STEWART HAAS RACING!

The kid's smarter than he looks. I wish him well. There are lots of really talented drivers that don't even have the chance he has. I wish all the good drivers had good rides, but it doesn't work that way and never has.
Often a good BS er with a sponsor will get the ride before a top driver. I guess it's more often than not now.

I think it proves he is a real Nascar Driver...He wants to race..Look at Edwards, he had no sponsors and still went out there proved himself, and is now a very popular Driver..Shame on Petty and Yates for not paying hmi...I hope another team notices him, scoops him up and he becomes a great driver.. Go Reed, I have a new found respect for him...

This might get Reed the 1 car. Seeing that he will race for free or even less than usual is attractive to sponsors and EGR. I'd pay for someone with a desire to race now that Sorenson has shown that. I hope he kicks butt!

I don't think it matter if he races for free or not, he doesn't get results behind the wheel. There are many good drivers without rides right now that will get hired before he does. Depending on the circumstances, I might do the same thing if I was in his position.

Makes sense to me. Sitting at home makes no money. Sitting in the race car making no money at least gives him an opportunity to do well and maybe get the attention of a future employer. Sort of like a live, in person resume.
Edit: Will he get anything is he does really well? Like a top ten or a win?

Don't you just love that young man's attitude, I do. I also know a certain contact (Terry-Lynn) who should be beaming from ear to ear. Make us in the Nation proud Reed and get some top ten finish's and the best of luck in finding a paying job.
Thank's Steffy!!
