why do they call a black hole a hole, when it is not an empty hole?

Update:

Phentan

Black is ok but it is not a hole, there must be another word that correctly describes what the body with that sort of gravity field is.

Update 2:

Bryce

Yes it looks black but it is not a hole. this is what i am questioning calling somthing a hole when it isn't, there must be a better word to describe what it is.

It is called a black hole because not even light can escape its gravitational pull, hence light cannot reflect off it, giving the appearance of it being black, the absence of light or color.

  • its not really a hole its more like a vector that you cant escape (i think vector is the word im looking for, ill find a dictionary and edit this answer if it isnt.

No light can escape. Hence its black.
